...for a little while ago.
How exciting. I'm posting my very first post of the new year. And after a very long unexplicable absense, mostly due to stress and laziness. There were exams and stuff, and I wasn't really bothered to do anything. So sue me.
But now I'm back - sure it may not be for very long, but it'll have to do.
HSC this year and all, exciting stuff. However the Highly Stressed Child, should probably not post ramblings on the net, and rather study instead, but we all have our lapses.
So I'm in holiday mode at the moment which is fun. I just sleep and eat really, but there is the occasional leaving of the house, and much watching of the television.
I have watched so much Buffy, Arrested Development, The West Wing and daytime crap to last me a lifetime. But those first three there are just too good to stop watching so I'll just have to go over that lifetime limit there.
However, I am changed since the last post oh so long ago. I am now - wait for it - employed! Its all very exciting. I am now working for Greater Union Cinemas. And I am loving it.
The job is so good. I just rip tickets at the podium, I walk through the cinemas doing checks - whilst being able to watch bits of the movies, and I clean them afterwards. Its great. Except for the bins. Trust me, put some popcorn and fizzy drink in an otto and leave it in the sun for a while - the smell of that bin juice will stick with you forever.
But the people are all so nice. But I think Pete, one of the floor supervisors thinks I'm a bit crazy. He thinks I'm a perfectionist, just because I like to sweep ALL the bits of popcorn of the floor, rather than what he does, and just miss afew rows. He also forbid me from cleaning the foyer because he thought I was being too uptight about it. But he's alright. Except for the fact he was joking about his licence suspension he got for speeding. So I have no respect for him, but he is rather amusing.
But the best part about the job is the free movies. I'm loving it. And also leeching it for all they've got. I'm supposed to get two free tickets a week, and I've been using like every one of them. I am feeling guilty about it though, because I think they're noticing how much i've been going in. Mostly because I have to ask the manager to write me out a staff pass. Oh well. They're my benefits and I'll use them as I please. So there :)
I am so excited!!! I recently heard about the TV show Gladiators and how it was coming back on and nearly died. I was the biggest fan of that show when it used to be on (which my sister thinks is a little disturbing since I was only about 8 when it was) but anyway, one of my friends got tickets to go in and watch the filming of it in Sydney. Its going to be so awesome. I can't wait.
Then my sister and I also finally bought tickets for Phantom of the Opera, which is going to be awesome.
Wel thats about all I've got for now, its too hot to try and think of anything else. So until next time...

Matthew! Yay
Celebrations!
I am now the proud new owner of Matthew Reilly's newest book Six Sacred Stones.
I was going to just borrow it off one of my friends after they'd finished reading it, so I could wait for it to come out in paperback (I'm extremely pedantic when it comes to matching book series) but I couldn't wait! I saw it in Borders and well... the rest is history.
So I've started reading, and instead of what I normally do and waste it all in one big greedy reading-glup, I'm pacing myself. Although I think I'll have to finish it tonight. Its just too awesome not to. I love it already!
I had my first free period today after dropping modern history. It was awfully sad.
But not really, because I just got in my car and drove home. And read. :)
But it was sad, because I don't get to do modern anymore.
Well thats basically all I have to say.
Go Matthew Reilly!
Australia is Awesome.
Out.

What the?

I bet this has something to do with the Americans.
It always does...
I bet this has something to do with the Americans.
It always does...
The Days March On...
So it was friday again yesterday, which was awesome.
That came around fast. There has already been two whole weeks back at school. Thats scary. Before you know it i'll have finished school and still be jobless, left with no money for me to start my world travels with. I was planning with a friend the other day where we could go, but I'm not really sure if he is being serious. I think he is, but his girlfriend would come along (which is all good, cause I'm friends with her too), but that could get a little awkward for me. So maybe I could just travel on the plane with them and do my own thing in the countries that we visit. Still, its sounding awkward huh?
But anyway, the countries would just be so amazing. Go to Japan first, and visit our friends there, then head up to Russia (I'll be a typical tourist and go to St. Petersburg). From there over to Europe, with England, Scottland, Italy (I'd love to go to Rome). Germany of course, where I could converse with some Germans in very simple Deutch. To Austria to Kopenkirk, the ski resort where my dad knows the owners - its now this huge enterprise, but when he went over there they were basically just starting out. Then - of course- to Ireland. I can't wait to go to Ireland. It looks so beautiful, the grass is always so green in the pictures.
So yesterday at school we had a thing called "U-Turn-The-Wheel". It was this thing run by our local rotary club to promote our driving awareness I suppose. We had all different workshops through the day. The NRMA spoke to us, including this woman whose daughter was killed in a car accident. It was just awful. And to have had to go through that experience, relaying it 5 times to different groups of people. No one should put themselves through that. We spoke to people from the Brain Injuries unit. The whole day was very confronting. The Highway Patrol spoke to us, and that was very good. But then they showed us a video of all these real car crashes, well more so the wreckages and that was awful too. I am already completely terrified of driving and was late to school that very morning because I was driving so slow in the rain. Then I had to drive around in the rain that afternoon after spending the day watching videos of the torn metal chasis of cars spread across the road. It wasn't fun.
So I had school band in the afternoon which was really fun. We still sound pretty bad but I always have heaps of fun with the people. My fellow little saxophonists are really awesome. They're in like year 7 and 8 but they are quite amusing.
Then I went over to my other band - the symphonic wind. It was very awesome too. We practice at a performing arts high school, and we normally play in their movement studio, but it was all set up for their musical which is happening next week, so we were in their hall instead. It is so amazing. Our school is pathetic, we basically don't have a hall - its a Gym, ready to accomodate the sporting teams that we never stop hearing about - our stage is portable, and is only put up like twice a year. Our movement studio is tiny and there is really only one student who knows how to run the lights properly. The hall at this school was awesome. They have a huge stage with seperate wings to the side, and enormous seating area already set up. There were 8 heaters and 8 reverse cycle air conditioners lining the walls. Thats not to mention the extensive lighting system set up near the front stage, then a massive wall at the back - my conductor informed me it cost about $12,000 - that is their huge control hub for all the lighting and sound systems. Then set up next to the stage is a huge grand piano, that connects up to the sound system, so it plays through the speakers. But I was then told they are selling it because its 'crap', and they are getting a new Steinway. A Steinway!!! For a school!!!
It got me thinking how amazing it would be to go to a performing arts school. I'd never really though about it before. Our school's music department is just disgraceful. We have two broken uprights and a room full of stingless guitars. We have one teacher (out of a grand total of two) who can actually teach. We have about a total of 25 music student in the senior years (that is combining the year 11 and 12 numbers). I could hardly imagine how incredible it would be to go to a school that has the amount of equipment that this school had, and that was just in the hall. In our break we go into one of the music rooms there and it has its own drumkit, a nice looking upright and a full sized electric keyboard. It would be like a whole school of people who love making music, and talented at it aswell. There would be no put downs for being in the band, and you would probably have heaps of friends who were all musicians too. Sigh.
But hey, I like my friends and I like my school, even if it is seriously disappointing when it comes to performing arts. I guess I just have to live with it.
So band was good in the hall there - the acoustics are sooo good. In our 'hall' the back wall just throws the sounds straight back at you. But then in the second half, Murray got all pissed of at us during this one song. He stopped at us to yell because we sounded crap saying "don't think you're too good for this song, because you're not, you can't even play it". I was like come on! He was sitting up the back playing the drums, so we didn't have a conductor, I was the only one in my section there so I had no one to cover for me, I was sight reading, it was 5 pages long and about a grade 5 piece at the least. But I suppose after that we kind of pulled ourselves together. Damn you Fiddler on the Roof. Its a stupid musical anyway.
So I should really be doing some school work. I really need to get some motivation happening here.
I'm annoyed because my english teacher suggested to our class that it might be good to go out and buy our own copy of the book we are going to be reading, which I think is ridiculous because my parents just paid the school my compulsorary $100 HSC book fee. What the hell was that for then??? So like hell I'm going to go out and buy it, then can give me a school copy. We're not made of money.
Well that seems to be enough for me. I've run out of things to say.
Until next time.

A Battle Wearied Soldier
I made it.
I have survived, and come out victorious in the vicious battle.
It was waged just this past weekend and played out a little like this:
The Spiders Vs. Yours Truly
You see, these lovely spiders had taken up residence around the outside of the pool during those long hard winter months, and here I came, armed with my Fly Spray, Brush and Bucket, ready to kick some serious spider ass.
And so I did.
I was rewarded by being able to enjoy the pool for the rest of the day (hopefully) spider free. However I was left feeling extremely jumpy after a huge wood spider nearly crawled onto my hand. Not fun...
So not much has happened since Friday. Well the weekend happened, but not much in it.
I had a band thing :) So that was awesome. It was only a half hour gig, but still fun.
This is an unusually tiny update for me, but it seems I don't actually have anything to say...

End of the Week!
Its Friday today!
How very exciting. I like Fridays. Not really because of the whole weekend thing (although that is a bonus), but I like Fridays cause I have band. :) And I am the biggest band nerd ever.
But I'll get back to talking about band later.
First I shall tell you about my first week back at school (this should be a pretty riveting read, I'm sure)
I did quite enjoy it being back. I do love holidays, but I love having some structure. I think I'm the kind of person who likes to have a definite plan set out for me. Otherwise I just kind of float around pointlessly - like when I'm on holidays for example.
I think I've sorted my subjects out right not. I'm going to drop Modern history and do History Extension. It should be good, and hopefully will take a bit of work out of the schedule. And even more excitingly, I'll have a free period!!!
But because the year 12's are doing there HSC now, they won't be in the senior study any more *wails* :( I'm going to miss my year 12 friends heaps, cause they're all so cool, and I wont get to see them anymore! My friends don't like Buffy or Angel, and they won't spend and entire lesson talking about how awesome the quotes are, and going through whole episodes picking out the best ones! They don't drool over the awesome music, or the awesome Spike and Angel :P I miss them already :(
But anway, that was a little off topic. School. Yes. The rest of the week passed by smoothly. I don't have to do sport on Wednesday. YAY!
*Cel-A-Bration, Lets Celebrate, and Have a Good Time*
There is truly a song for everything.
But, instead ( I thought I would get to go home early ) I have Ext History then, which is still good. It should be fun. I really hope I can get myself to do the work though. Theres alot of 'get out there and do it yourself.' Which is so different to all the coddling we've had through the rest of school with the teachers basically giving you everything you need. A friend suggested a trip to the State library which I think is a good idea. We should wait until we have heaps of information needed for different subjects and take a day trip. lol. How exciting.
Today was our Year 12 Orientation Day. We went in to the Civic Centre and had a day long thing. There was one woman who came form the Board of Studies to talk to us, and that was mostly stuff we already knew. Then we had these people from a place called Elevate Education - they were all pretty young, just Uni students themselves, which I think was supposed to help us relate to them. They were pretty good. They seemed really enthusiastic about what they were telling us, so that gave it an extra edge. We got stuff about time management, which is my worst problem. But I basically do everything they told us you can do anway, but its just, I make all the time tables for myself and I do the notes, but it doesn't seem to work.
But for year 12 I'm really hoping I can do it. I really want to try hard.
So after that this afternoon I had band :) Well, first I had to go to school band, which I enjoyed. I doesn't really matter that the music doesn't sound that good, but I just like the people in the band. They're all pretty fun, and we have a good time anyway.
Then after we [being Kieran and I] went to Macarthur band, but we were late leaving, and we went to pick Erin up aswell, so we got there pretty late. But when we got out of the car, they had already started, and all three of us realised what was happening, and wanted to get back in the car and drive far, far away. You see, it has come to the time of the year which I have now fondly titled "The Musician's Hell", welcome, my dear readers, to the dreaded Christmas Carol season. Oh yes, it has begun. Oh Come all Ye Faithful was resonating throughout the grounds as we approached the hall, and sullenly we joined in.
I haven't actually been in this band over a christmas yet, but they can at least play the carols so that is a bonus I suppose. But I generally have about 3 Christmas gigs with other bands, so it'll probably be double this year. Yipee. lol.
But I still loved every minute of band. Except for Aaron. My own personal Jonathan.
You see, in the Community Band, the clarinet section is plagued by the horrors of the sounds that eminate from the young and terrible Jonathan. I had never actually come across someone before who could make an entire section sound bad, but he pulls it off spectactularly. Erin and I praise the times he is not there, and the joyous "second half" at which he is not present, because he leaves in the break.
So at my lovely new band I thought, wow, I shall be free, but no. This was not the case, for here enters Aaron. Who, like Jonathan, has not quite mastered the concept of any dynamic below the range of ff-forte fortissimo. Its very painful. He can't actually hit a high B without screwing up the intonation. Its quite frustrating.
And both of these lovely *cough* young men, absolouely refuse to play any music that is not 1st. Therefore, they are playing mostly in the higher register, notes, which I have previously mentioned, they cannot quite reach without getting the sound of a cat being beaten.
So that does put a damper on things, because Aaron stayed for the whole time, even though he generally leaves in the break too. But there was hardly anyone left there after break, and no flute section, so I borrowed Murray's flute and took up the post. I haven't actually played flute in a band before, so it was very exciting. However I don't think I'm quite cut out for it. I get really nervous when I'm playing and people can hear me really well, so I start shaking in my nervousness, and that makes my lip quiver, so my notes get really shaky when I'm playing the flute in front of people, so it doesn't work very well. Then on top of that I was sight reading all the pieces and there was this lovely solo section for me in the Lion King piece. They have a really good arrangement of that though. I like it. But the flute I was playing didn't seem to want to play the note E, so that was interesting aswell. But all in all, I have had a really good week.
Then I have a band gig tomorrow morning so more music! :) So that will be awesome.
Oh, on another note, Kate has left for Japan this morning! How exciting. She's so lucky. I want to go back so much. But mum said I probably can after my HSC. She would be there already!
Sayonara Kate! Bon voyagé!
She gets to see my host sister Kanako and I don't :( But I gave her a letter to give to her so its all good.
Well its getting late now, considering I generally go to bed as early as possible usually around 9ish on a good day. I like my sleep, but I don't like sleeping in. Therefore, solution - go to bed early. It works for me.
Until next time...

Well its getting late now, considering I generally go to bed as early as possible usually around 9ish on a good day. I like my sleep, but I don't like sleeping in. Therefore, solution - go to bed early. It works for me.
Until next time...

Back to School...
So as the title of this particular update suggests, today was my first day back at school. The holidays ended well. The last week (I can't really be bothered to go into details) I went to the movies with friends - quite alot of them actually - and it was kind of weird. I think there were to many people and they all wanted to go and do their own thing. Then afterwards we went bowling. I didn't actually go and see the movie because I'd already seen it, and frankly, it was quite crap (Evan Almightly if anyones interested. I hated how he was a senator and they made all these crap jokes about it - "He's down on ways and means, but he's not way mean" I mean come on). So I just walked around the centre accompanied by one of my other friends who just didn't want to see the movie. I bought another book! I seriously have a problem. But it was only $7!!! Its called Tokyo by Mo Hayder. I sucked at bowling. I got around 70 the first game and only 80 the next. But oh well. It was kind of fun, but my friends have certainly been a but weird lately so that made it slightly... well uncomfortable I suppose.
The next day was awesome, yet painful. I went with Dad into the city with all intentions of going to the Sydney Motor Show, yet when we got there, at about 10am, we saw that the exhibition hall was covered with posters of "opens 5pm today!". Which really sucked, but we made the choice and walked around Sydney ALL day (extremly extremely painful in high heeled shoes when you never wear high heels - my feet took a couple of days to heal). But it was fun. We walked around government house which was pretty amazing, through Hyde Park, and we went to this awesome shop that I love in China Town called Morning Glory. It has all these cute little Japanese type things, stationary mostly (which I love, I am a stationary NUT - go officeworks!). So I bought some new pens and a really awesome notebook.
We also went to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music which looked really really awesome. I am now seriously considering going there and doing a Bachelor of Performance. It would basically just be a more glamorous version of what I previously wanted to do, which is join one of the military bands. So that was fun.
The actual motor show was amazing. So many cars and they were all presented so incredibly. It was really worth the wait, so I was happy with that. Then we caught the train back at like 9:30pm which was quite scary. Going through places that we stopped at really made me appreciate where I live even more. I really am so naïve about what people are really like, and how some suburbs of Australia are. Its pretty scary how they are.
Then over the last Friday-Saturday of the holidays two of my friends stayed over the night. It was fun. We basically just sat around and watched movies. Transformers - which was awesome, Next - which was extremely disappointing and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - which I absoloutely love.
[Gay Perry - "Look in the dictionary under the word 'idiot'. You know what you'll find?"
Harry - "A picture of me?"
Gay Perry - "No moron, the meaning of the word idiot, which you f**king are!"]
So that was about it. Sunday I just lazed around savouring the last moments of freedom.
Hmm, so much for "I can't be bothered to go into details". Well anyway.
So today I went back to school, which I quite enjoyed, even though it was uncomfortably hot.
Its really annoying though, because everyone has such a negative attitude, so its really hard to stay positive but I just try to ignore them. I feel that my friends are slightly immature in that sense that they all still think the world is out to get them. Its a very downtrodden mood they all have, but there are a few exceptions, so I can work with that.
I got most of my exam results back. I was fairly happy with them.
English I wasn't really - I only got 48/70 which kind of sucks cause I do really like english and wanted to do well, but I just have to work harder next time. I think that was a pretty good mark in comparison to the rest. It was about 3rd, but because of the amount of people on the same marks above me I am on about 6th.
Music I was like estactic with. I got 27.5/35 which for my first real music exam I was really pleased about. I was over the moon with my performance mark, which was first, at 18/20.
German, was allright, there I got 38/45, so that was pretty good. Listening component I got 31.5/35 so happy there. Then speaking I got 18/20.
Modern I was really surprised with. I came second on 93% with 74/80. I am actually thinking of dropping that subject though, so I was kind of annoyed that I did so well. But my teacher made a good suggestion which I think I will do, which is to drop modern and pick up Extension History, which is only one unit dropping me down to 13, which should work well. So I think I will do that.
I got my Ancient History paper back, confirming my 98% Hell yes!!! i was so happy. I got 49/50. But I was so annoyed, out of the whole paper we had 3 essays in which I didn't loose a mark then in the source based questions I lost my point in a question worth one mark that was "What type is this source, primary or secondary?" It was so a secondary source dammit!!!
But hey, I'm certainly not complaining about my mark there.
So all in all, it was a good day, and I'm happy about my results. I'm really only disappointed with my english mark, but I can work on that.
I really am going to try my hardest this year. I want to achieve every mark that I have the potential to get. And hopefully I will feel content with what I have done by the end of my HSC next year.
After that, who knows where life will take me...
